– Donates block of classrooms, holds health screening
Precious Pharmacy, a leading pharmacy and healthcare company in Abeokuta, Ogun State, recently clocked 25 years, and to celebrate this achievement, the company rolled out innovative programmes to show appreciation to clients and its host community.
The first day of the celebrations featured free health screening/promotion for clients of the pharmacy. The clients, who turned up in their hundreds, were screened for various lifestyle diseases and other conditions and were counselled and given medications.
On the second day of the anniversary, Precious Pharmacy, which started as a modest outlet next to Adatan Police Station in 1992 and has now grown to providing medicines and health services in four different locations in Abeokuta, donated a well-furnished block of classrooms to Itesi Methodist Primary School, Adatan, Abeokuta. The school is located almost opposite the spot where Precious Pharmacy’s first outlet commenced operations over 25 years ago.
Amongst the eminent Nigerians at the commissioning ceremony of the classrooms were Prof. Festus Adio Ogunbona, former chairman, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN); Chief (Mrs) Bola Obasanjo, wife of former Nigerian president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; Dr Kehinde Osifade, representative of Alake of Egbaland, who chaired the occasion; Princess Adenike Osibo-Oyewobi, also a representative of Alake; and Pharm. Remi Ogunyemi, chairman, PSN, Ogun State.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr Adebola Aromiwura, chairman of Precious Pharmacy, said the company decided to put together the 25th anniversary programme to show appreciation to the company’s clients and the community for their contributions to the pharmacy over the years.
He noted that the community had demonstrated ample trust and support over the period towards the company’s existence, especially during the trying period when two of its initial three outlets were demolished with short notice and no immediate compensation, adding that Precious Pharmacy was grateful to God for surviving the tough time and being able to now provide services at four different locations in Abeokuta.
He stated further that the company decided to commit a good part of its meagre resources to supporting public primary education infrastructure in the community because of its commitment to good corporate social responsibility (CSR) to the community where it operates and also because the proprietors of the company(he and his wife) were products of good public schools and had observed that the government had not been able to do much for the schools in recent times.
In his remarks at the commissioning ceremony, Mr Soyinka O. N., headteacher of the school, thanked the proprietors of Precious Pharmacy for the gesture, noting that the donation would tremendously help to ease the shortage of classrooms in the school. He also urged other corporate bodies to follow the good example of Precious Pharmacy.
The Alake of Egbaland, represented at the occasion by Dr Kehinde Osinfade, praised Dr and Pharm. Aromiwura for the gesture, urging other businesses to emulate them and give back to the community that made them. Princess Osibo-Oyewobi, also a representative of the Alake, was then accompanied by other dignitaries to cut the tape to commission the classrooms.
The highlight of the occasion was the anniversary dinner held at Green Legacy Resort, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.
In her welcome remarks at the dinner, Pharm. (Mrs) Yetunde Aromiwura, a Fellow of the PSN and vice chairman and CEO, Precious Pharmacy, said that the pharmacy’s name “Precious” was adapted from the Yoruba word “wura”, because health is precious, noting that the outfit since its establishment had consistently striven not to deviate from its motto, which is service to humanity.
She said: “What made Precious Pharmacy different is the direct seamless pharmacist-client interaction. I was always available to listen to clients’ complaints, evaluate, recommend and make appropriate referrals, as I believe pharmaceutical services are robust enough to engage my attention than delving into administering injections and dressing, as was fashionable with some outlets at that time.”
Pharm. Aromiwura added that God had continued to enlarge the coast of the organisation, adding that the new headquarters of Precious Pharmacy at Omida, Abeokuta now also accommodates Precious Mart, a one-stop store where people of all ages shop every day.
Speaking at the lavish dinner, which was also graced by Pharm. (Dr) Ejiro Foyibo, former national chairman, ACPN, Prof. Adio Ogunbona, who chaired the occasion, expressed his happiness to be part of the event, noting that the 25th anniversary of Precious Pharmacy was a celebration of exemplary pharmacy practice
“We are celebrating not just pharmacy business, but exemplary community pharmacy practices that pharmacists are proud of. It is thus a big pleasure to congratulate Dr and Pharm. Aromiwura and to commend them for giving back to the community,” Prof. Ogunbona said.
