WAPCP Executives Visit Pharmanews, Holds Symposium in May

Ahead of their forthcoming 34th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Scientific Symposium holding in May 2022 in Lagos, Nigeria; executives of the Nigeria Chapter of the West Africa Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) visited Pharmanews on Tuesday, to strengthen the relationship between the college and Pharmanews team.

The WAPCP executives,  led by the Chairman, Pharm. (Dr) Magaret Obono, used the occasion to invite the Managing Director, Pharmanews Limited, Pharm. (Sir) Ifeanyi Atueyi, to the forthcoming AGM and Symposium of the college, as guest of honour.

The AGM/Symposium is slated for Monday 16 Thursday to 19 May, 2022, at the Welcome Centre Hotel, Lagos, Nigeria. The theme of the Symposium is “Medicine Security in the West African Region: Matters Arising”. The Keynote speaker of the symposium is the Managing Director, SKG Pharma, Pharm.(Dr) Okey Akpa.

The sub-themes for the event are: “Achieving Medicine Security through Resilient Logistics and Supply Chain Management System, and Role of Consultant Pharmacists in Ensuring Medicine Security in the West African Region.

While speaking during the visit, Sir Atueyi commended the Nigeria Chapter of the college for the visit, saying it is the second time the college is visiting Pharmanews. “It's my pleasure to receive executives of the Nigeria Chapter of the college for the second time, as the Pharm.(Dr) Chijioke Onyia, led executives were the first to visit us in 2017″.

The Pharmanews publisher however assured the college of Pharmanews support. He said “thank you for having it in mind to visit Pharmanews. On our part, we would support the college as much as possible. With the extended invitation you are sending out, I can see a successful conference”.

While speaking on the upcoming conference, Dr Obono said the Nigeria Chapter is delighted to host the 34th AGM and Scientific Symposium of the College. She said “the event is taking place in Nigeria, so we must showcase the pharmacists that we honoured and valued. The largest percentage of the fellows of the college is in Nigeria, while we also have some fellows in Gambia, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone”.

According to her,  many dignitaries have been invited to attend the event among whom  are the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Emmanuel Ehanire; the Commissioner of Health, Lagos State Prof. Akin Abayomi and his counterpart from Nasarawa, Hon. Ahmed Baba Yahaya; members of the House Committee on Health; the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria; the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control in Nigeria (NAFDAC), the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and many other notable institutions and pharmacists in Nigeria and other West African countries.

According to the Vice-Chairman, Nigeria Chapter of the college, Pharm. (Dr) Hafsat Adeshina; apart from the discussion on the theme and the sub-themes, issues revolving around pharmacists consultancy cadre and its implementation will also be discussed extensively.

In her remarks, the Chairman of the event organising committee, Pharm. (Mrs)  Ngozi Onuorah, who was also part of the team said the desire of the committee and the chapter collectively is to make the 2022 AGM and Symposium the best in the history of the college.
