These days, so many young girls come up with different creams for dark spots on their faces. In fact, some people spend so much on several skin care products, yet there are no significant changes.

However, dermatologists from different parts of the world have listed home remedies for that glowing skin.

Dr Tina Funt, dermatologists at Schweiger Dermatology Group in New York said if you have extra dry skin or oily pores, achieving a beautiful glow can feel impossible. She defined a glowing skin as skin that is moist and soft—not dull, dry or flaky. “Glowing skin is characterized by small pores, even complexion and clear skin without blemishes,” She added.

Dr Funt  said if you want to get rid of those dark spots and have a glowing skin, here are some homemade remedies you can try your hands on, but before that, you have to know your skin and how they react.

Do you have oily skin, dry skin or combination? Take stock of what your skin is up to by looking at the size of your pores and where you typically get oily or dry. According to Dr Funt, larger pores are a sign of oily skin and needs plenty of astringents and retinoid to balance oil production. “Products like astringents, retinoid and benzoyl peroxide decrease sebum or oil, and help eliminate shine,” says Dr Funt. “Oily skin is caused by hormone changes which cause excessive sebum and enlarged pores.”

If your skin dries, cracks or peels during the summer you may want to adjust your environment. “Dry or ashy skin can be due to lack of moisture from overuse of products that dry skin like retinoid or benzoyl peroxide, change in estrogen levels due to menopause or workplaces with dry environments and excessive air conditioning or lack of humidity,” says  Funt.

Honey

Jessica Wu, an LA-based, dermatologist and author of Feed Your Face, says another thing one should consider when thinking of glowing skin is honey. Honey when taken internally and externally is excellent for the skin. For combination to dry skin types, take one teaspoon of honey and massage on the skin daily. Leave it on for about 10 minutes and then wash. Pat dry and you will see that not only is your skin softer but also glowing. Make sure you use raw honey both internally and externally in order to reap maximum benefits. Organic raw honey is easily available everywhere.

Banana

A common man's moisturiser and nourisher, never underestimate this fruit. Mash a ripe banana and massage the skin with the pulp. Even the driest of skins will thank you for it. Banana contains moisture, potassium and vitamins E and C, which are responsible for promoting clear skin. Use a ripe banana as it has more beneficial effects that unripe one.

Eat more of watermelon

Investing in skincare product will help you from the surface, but you need to aid your skin from the inside too. Adding a lycopene-rich food, such as this juicy pink treat, ‘helps reduce damage and redness caused from sun exposure, thus preventing future wrinkling,' says Elizabeth Somer, nutritionist and author of Eat Your Way to Sexy.

Aim for one cup each day by tossing it in salads, salsas, and smoothies. Or try her recipe for refreshing ice cubes: Purée watermelon, sweeten with concentrated apple juice, pour into an ice tray, and freeze. Then add cubes to water (fizzy or still) for a refreshing, healthy skin-saving mocktail.

Take in more water

If you want to know how to get clear skin, this one's a non-negotiable. “Water helps clear the toxins that cause inflammation and blemishes,” explains says clinical practitioner, Dr Isaac Eliaz.

‘It also assists in transporting nutrients and oxygen to skin cells, and preventing dehydration, which can cause premature ageing.'

It can even make skin appear fuller since the hyaluronic acid that naturally exists in skin will pull in and hold the water for a wrinkle-plumping effect, according to Day.

Both recommend at least eight glasses of water each day, more if you're active or live in a warm climate, for healthy, glowing skin. To add a little flavour, try a skin-soothing tea like chamomile or mint.

Mash Aloe vera

This modest plant can be grown practically everywhere – gardens, pots, terraces, etc – and is an excellent rejuvenator for undernourished skin. Scrape out the gel from the leaf, mash it and massage onto the skin. Let it sit there for 10 minutes and wash the skin with cold water and pat dry. Your skin will be rejuvenated naturally. Aloe vera soothes your skin, especially in summers when it faces the sweltering heat.
Now that you have these precious natural nourishers, all you need to do is start using them and see how your skin comes back to life and becomes super soft in minutes. Natural skin care is effective and easy.

Eat berries to reduce wrinkles

A powerful anti-ageing portion is lurking right in your fridge. Raspberries are loaded with ellagic acid, an antioxidant that research shows can prevent wrinkles when applied to the skin.

‘It protects the collagen that keeps skin plump and beautiful from being worn down by the sun,' says says Jessica Wu, an LA-based dermatologist and author of Feed Your Face.

Add in honey, a natural humectant that holds water against the skin for maximum moisture, and you've got a recipe for gorgeous, dewy, glowing skin. Mash up a handful of raspberries with a spoonful of honey, and apply the mask to clean skin for 15-20 minutes. Rinse and pat dry.

Clean your make up brushes

A British study found that 72 per cent of women never wash their brushes or sponges, even though they collect dirt and bacteria which can cause breakouts – not what you want when you're trying to get better skin.

‘You should wash loose powder brushes every two to three weeks, and those used to apply foundation once a week,' says Wu. Mix a couple of drops of gentle facial cleanser or shampoo and lukewarm water in a cup, swish your brushes around, rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry, and lay flat to air dry.

Papaya

“The goodness of this humble fruit and have used it time and time again on my skin in various treatments, and they have all given positive results,” says Dr Funt. Take mashed papaya and massage it onto the skin for five minutes. Wash the skin with milk and then water and see how clarified and soft your skin feels in minutes. Papaya nourishes the skin; thanks to the presence of vitamin A and papain enzyme, it helps remove dead skin cells and inactive proteins, thus rejuvenating your skin.

Almond

Whether you are using pure almond oil or almond paste, both are excellent sources of Vitamin E, providing nourishment for your skin externally. For dehydrated and dry skin, first massage the face with one teaspoon almond oil and then make a paste of 10 almonds mixed with a little milk and scrub it gently onto the skin. Wash the face with milk and then water. Not only will this help patchy skin but will give the skin an youthful texture, something we are all in constant search of.

Avocado

The healthy fruit with aphrodisiac properties works wonders for dry skin. Mash an avocado and apply it onto a clean skin, slowly massaging it. Leave it on for a minimum of 15 minutes before you wash off with milk and then water. Full of healthy fats, vitamins and antioxidants, avocadoes are great for your skin health. Using avocado oil is also one of the best options to keep your skin healthy. Eating avocadoes is also one way to help your skin glow.

Keep your phone clean and keep your skin clear

According to a Stanford University study, that iPhone you can't keep your hands off, can get more germ-infested than a toilet in a public bathroom. In fact, the glass touchscreens on mobile devices are so good at spreading viruses that sharing them may be almost as bad as sneezing in someone's face.

Here's a scary thought: All those germs land right on your cheek and jawline every time you chat away, causing spots and irritation. To keep your phone (and face) bacteria-free, keep a handy pack of anti-bac wipes next to your charger to remind you to give it a clean.

Go to bed early

We know, you've heard it all before, but it's called beauty sleep for a reason. “Sleep deprivation lowers circulation, which is why you look pale and washed out if you only get a few hours,” says Amy Wechsler, one of only two U.S. physicians board-certified in both dermatology and psychiatry.

It's also the best time to rejuvenate your skin. ‘Your body's cellular renewal team has the night shift, so this is when you want to equip your skin with as many nutrients and hydrating ingredients it needs to do a fine job,' she says.

At least seven hours a night should do, if you've been questioning how to get glowing skin. To make the most of your beauty sleep and get glowing skin, check out these seven beauty buys that work while you sleep.
