Nigeria’s leading pharmaceutical company, May & Baker Nigeria Plc has opened a new chapter in its operations by launching some herbal products under a newly created unit called Nature Care, in partnership with Siddh:ayu Ayurvedic Research Foundation Pvt. Ltd. India, says Pharm. Nnamdi Okafor, MD/CEO, May & Baker Nig. Plc.
According to a release from the Corporate Communications Manager, Innocent Adulugba, the rationale for venturing into herbal medicine was, according to Okafor, to ensure that Nigerians who, for some reasons, are still uncomfortable with the use of orthodox medicines, are catered for.
Okafor further explained that, “Over the years we have built some good reputations with orthodox medicines but we are also aware that there are a good number of Nigerians who are concerned about the side-effects of some orthodox medicines and they would rather use some herbal medicines. We have also noted that nature is still the best healer and most times offers the best options in improving total quality of life.”
Continuing, he said: “As the pharmaceutical company with the pedigree of being the first in many things, we are also a listening company that feels the pulse of Nigerians and consistently looks out for new, effective and lasting ways of fulfilling this mission. As a company, our mission is to improve the quality of life of every Nigerian throughout their lives. So we feel that in order to ensure that these people get the right quality medicine that they desire, May & Baker should go into this space. This led us, years ago, to search out better treatment options for some ailments and, today, we can proudly say we have partnered with a global longstanding name in Ayurvedic medicine, Siddh:ayu, to better serve our mission in Nigeria, through Nature Care.”
Also, the Chief Executive Officer, Siddh:ayu Ayurvedic Research Foundation Pvt. Ltd, Pranav Sharma gave assurance on the products’ quality. He noted that his company which was established by his grandfather 100 years ago, has a reputation for quality, research, publications and information dissemination on herbal medicines.
“It’s absolutely an honour and privilege to actually have May & Baker as our partner. Just as quality has been the founding pillars of M&B, Siddh:ayu Ayurvedic has been a brand in India in the last 100 years, purely on the basis of top quality and best practices and the goodwill that we have been able to create as well. This partnership will bring success to both companies and we are able to create a legacy like we’ve been able to create in India for ourselves in Nigeria as well in time to come,” Sharma said.
Similarly, the COO, Nature care, Mrs Uche Olekamma, said May & Baker researched into natural products with proven medicinal properties as a response to the yearnings of Nigerians for safe and affordable herbal products. According to her, the different range of products launched borders on treatment options for respiratory health, digestive health, immunity and vitality, sexual health, as well as quality sleep and relaxation.
“Nigerians who crave for quality herbal products can now have them in all pharmaceutical and retail shops nationwide or book online for personal delivery,” she said, adding that “Nature Care offers Nigerians safe, effective, accessible and affordable herbal products that helps the body heal naturally with no side-effects.”
