Nigeria Confirms Highest Daily COVID-19 Infections with 1867 Cases

Nigeria has just recorded the highest daily COVID-19 infections with 1867 cases on Friday, making a total tally of 107345 confirmed cases since the outbreak of the virus in Nigeria.

Announcing the new figure via its verified Twitter handle, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC disclosed that the new cases were recorded from 24 states with Lagos toping the list.

Prior to this, the agency had reported the previous highest daily infections as 1616 barely two weeks ago.

The agency also revealed the recovery rates of patients across the country, stating that Lagos discharged 277 patients, who recovered from community, 150 in Kaduna State and 78 in Plateau State, managed in line with guidelines.

With the newly confirmed cases of 1867, Lagos, Plateau, FCT, and Kaduna have highest shares with 713, 273, 199 and 117 cases respectively.

They were closely followed by Oyo-79; Enugu-58; Ondo-53; Kano-49; Sokoto-43; Ogun-37; Osun-37;Nasarawa-36; Rivers-28;Benue-24; Delta-24; Niger-24; Gombe-18; Edo-15; Taraba-12; Bayelsa-10.

While Ekiti has 9; Borno 6; Zamfara 2 and Jigawa 1.

With the spike in new infections, most Isolation centres, especially in Lagos are more likely to run out of bed spaces as the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi hinted recently on capacity level of Lagos centres.

According to him, the Infectious Disease Hospital II isolation is almost getting filled up and the bed occupancy is at 87 per cent, while the Paelon Isolation centre is filled up.

Though new centres are being opened but they are filling up rapidly.
