Pharm. (Mrs) Margaret Obono, director of Pharmacy and head of the Pharmacy Department at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, has emerged the first winner of the Biogenerics Integrity Award.
Pharm. Obono was announced the winner during the opening ceremony of the 91st Annual National Conference of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) held at the International Conference Centre, Ibadan, Oyo State, graced by many eminent Nigerians and pharmacists.
The first winner of the Biogenerics Integrity Award, Pharm. Obono received a cash prize of one million naira and a plaque for emerging winner from about 76 hospital pharmacists nominated.
Pharm. Obono established the Drugs and Therapeutics Committee as well as the Pharmacovigilance Committee at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Lagos. She also initiated the automated dispensing and inventory management used in the hospital’s pharmacy and through Drug Revolving Fund built a 150 million DRF Pharmacy Building Complex which was commissioned in 2014.
Two other pharmacists, Pharm. Richard Oritseminone Ogide, assistant director of pharmaceutical services, Delta State Teaching Hospital, Oghara, Delta State and Pharm. (Dr) Isibor Okhai, the chief pharmacist at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Benin, Edo State, were also recognised by the Biogenerics Integrity Award committee.
The Biogenerics Integrity Awards is an award initiated to promote integrity among Nigerian healthcare professionals and is only available to pharmacists practicing in public owned institutions. The award is sponsored by Biogenerics Nigeria Limited, a leading pharmaceutical company in Nigeria.
