PSN President Tasks Young Pharmacists on Commitment to the Profession

The President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Mazi (Pharm.) Sam Ohuabunwa  has charged members of the Young Pharmacists Group (YPG) Lagos chapter, to be good ambassadors of the profession, through their dedication to activities that will promote healthcare of the citizenry.

The PSN President, made the remarks at the inaugural meeting of the YPG, Lagos chapter, where he reiterated his commitment to young pharmacists and highlighted the need for them to uphold the tenets of the profession wherever they may find themselves.

Addressing the young pharmacists, the keynote speaker, Pharm. Abimbola Adebakin, ceo, Advantage Health Africa, emphasized the need for them to excel on all fronts and imbibe leadership qualities for better performances. GLO (783134015017339)

Speaking on the topic: “Strength in Unity: The Eight-Star Young Pharmacist”, she highlighted the characteristics of an eight – star young pharmacist to include a team leader, a caregiver, a decision maker, a researcher, a teacher, a lifelong learner, a communicator and a manager.

Her words: “An eight-star young pharmacist should be able to make a positive impact in his/her society as a leader and always seeks a win-win situation for better results.” She further emphasized the need for self-leadership as early as possible, noting that it is a key ingredient towards building one’s career and making true impact.

She also stressed the importance of teamwork and strength in unity amongst young pharmacists stating that it ensures higher productivity, shared burdens and more effective outcomes.

Adebakin concluded her session with the charge to the greenhorns that Pharmacy needs more win-win minded leaders, and the profession will accomplish more faster,  with better served clients at all levels and across the sector, while innovation will spring up more.

In her own contribution, the Host and Coordinator, Lagos YPG, Pharm. Funmbi Okoya remarked on the significance of the first meeting of the PSN-YPG Lagos, noting that the memory will linger longer in the minds of all members of the chapter.

 

“Our administration has identified regular bi-monthly meetings as vital to PSN-YPG Lagos   sustainability, membership involvement and growth as an interest group, and we are glad that today, it has become a reality. We appreciate the incredible support from our mother association, PSN Lagos and as a very young group, we look forward to additional support from external organisations as partners and sponsors.”

In attendance at the event were: Other PSN-YPG Lagos executives including Pharm. Muyiwa Olagunju, former Lagos State coordinator and current national chairman, PSN-YPG; Pharmacists Uchechukwu-A Uzoma Sochi, the public relations officer; Oyekanmi Oluwabiyi, financial secretary; Ezeanya Cynthia, treasurer; and Immediate Past National Chairman, PSN-YPG, Hanson Ekomobong.

Also at the event were: Chief Host of the occasion, Pharm. Bolanle Adeniran, chairperson, Lagos PSN;  Immediate Past Chairman, PSN Lagos, Pharm. Gbenga Olubowale; Former PSN Lagos Chairman, Anthony Bola Oyawole;  Secretary, PSN Lagos, Babayemi Oyekunle; Publicity Secretary, PSN Lagos, Sunmonu Kola; Gbolagade Iyiola, Chairman, AHAPN Lagos, Titilayo Onedo, and representatives of the Lagos ALPs Chairperson.
