Diabetic neuropathy presents with peripheral neuropathy and the patient
complains of numbness, muscular pain and weakness. Ibuprofen may be used
to relieve mild to moderate pain. Gabapentin, an anti-epileptic drug, is used
for the treatment of neuropathic pain, as is amitriptyline and nortriptyline
(tricyclic antidepressants). Opioid analgesics may be considered when other
drugs have failed. Metoclopramide is used to promote gastric transit in gastroparesis.
