    Isoflurane is a volatile liquid anaesthetic that is administered through cali￾brated vaporisers using a carrier gas. Isoflurane causes muscle relaxation and
    it potentiates the effects of muscle relaxant drugs such as atracurium that are
    also sometimes used in general anaesthesia. Heart rate may rise during
    isoflurane anaesthesia and there is an increased risk of arrhythmias when it
    is given with adrenaline.
