    Leflunomide is a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug that exerts its
    therapeutic effect 4–6 weeks after initiation of treatment. It is started at 100 mg
    once daily for 3 days and then a maintenance dose of 10–20 mg once daily
    is recommended. It is available as tablets at 10 mg, 20 mg or 100 mg
    strengths. The active metabolite of leflunomide persists for a long period, so
    washout procedures are required in case of serious adverse effects or before
    changing to another disease-modifying antirheumatic drug.
