Hepatic microsomal drug-metabolizing enzyme induction leads to:

b) Cumulative effects

c) Development of physical dependence

d) “hangover” effects

    • ‘A’ is the correct option because, an increase/induction of the hepatic microsomal drug metabolic enzyme increases the metabolism of barbiturate. Thus increase in dosage of barbiturate is needed to overcome the effect of this hepatic enzyme, hence the therapeutic plasma concentration can be attained – causing tolerance of the drug.
