The new Chairman, Board of Fellows (BOF), Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharm. C. O. Mordi, has pledged to pursue genuine reconciliation and unity of all members of the PSN, especially those that are aggrieved as a result of the fallout from the last PSN presidential election, held in Abuja, last November.
Pharm. Mordi made this pledge while speaking during his official swearing-in ceremony held at Pharmacy House, Anthony, Lagos, adding that the PSN cannot afford to act as if some people were not hurt as a result of the election.
Pharm. Mordi while commending the immediate past chairman of the BOF, Pharm. Ade Popoola, for his achievements and for raising the important issue of reconciliation, said that he was going to work with the new executives to pursue genuine reconciliation of all parties involved in the contentious election.
The new BOF helmsman appealed to all the past chairmen of the body to continue to make themselves available to the elite body of pharmacists in Nigeria, stressing that he would inundate them with requests for advice and assistance.
While pledging to do his best to take the BOF to the next level, he urged all members to work with the new executives, noting that “this is not my regime, but our regime.”
Speaking earlier at the event, Pharm. Ade Popoola, while congratulating Pharm. Mordi and his team, said all Fellows and pharmacists in Nigeria would look towards the new BOF leadership for the right way forward on all issues and challenges that would be coming up in the next three years, praying that God would give Pharm. Mordi and the new executives the wisdom to lead the body.
Pharm. Popoola further urged the new BOF leadership to foster unity in the Society, as well as being the major adviser of the new PSN president, to ensure conflicts are reduced to the barest minimum during his tenure.
He noted that the conflict resolution of the board should not be relegated in view of the discordant views during the last PSN presidential election, adding that efforts should be made to reconcile aggrieved parties and ensure the tenure of the current president is crisis free.
Pharm. Popoola also tasked the BOF leadership to encourage, nurture and strengthen the state chapters of BOF to make them more active.
The highlight of the occasion was the official handover to the new executives and the dressing of Pharm. Mordi with the chain of office as the new BOF chairman.
Amongst the dignitaries at the event were: Pharm. Ebenezer Adeleke and Pharm. John Nwaiwu, past chairman of BOF, PSN; Pharm. Ernest Okafor, managing director, Nemitt Pharmaceuticals and Pharm. Bola Oyawole, former chairman, PSN, Lagos State chapter.
