-As Onyechi, Vanguard Pharmacy, Unilever clear other categories
Pharm Ahmed Yakasai, president, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has been declared winner of 2016 Pharmalliance Leadership Award.
The award ceremony took place during the 8th edition of The Panel, an annual retail business summit, organised by Pharmalliance at Classique Place, Oregun – Lagos on August 9, 2016.
While presenting the award, Pharm. Chris Ehimen, managing director of Nett Pharmacy explained that Yakasai was given a special recognition for bridging the gap between young and old pharmacists as well as rebuilding cordial relationship between Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the PSN.
“Much as I don’t think I am qualified enough to present this award, it is an honour I cannot ignore. Pharm. Yakasai is known to always be on the move. We (pharmacists) are proud of him,” he said.
In a related development, Pharm Ike Onyechi, managing director of Alpha Pharmacy won the category of Retail Legend Award, an honour reserved for pharmacists who have spent 20 years and above and is still relevant.
Congratulating him, Yakasai reminisced that the first time he came across Alpha Pharmacy many years ago, he was carried away with its professionalism so much that he was compelled to ask a lady who owns it.
“I was shocked when she announced Pharm. Onyechi as the owner. Today, I use this opportunity to congratulate him for winning this award and Pharmalliance for the professional organisation of The Panel,” he said.
In the category of Pharmalliance Inspiration Award, Pharm. Taofik Oladipupo, founder and chief executive officer of Vanguard Pharmacy in Ibadan was announced the award. It would be recalled that Pharm. Bukky George, chief executive officer of HealthPlus Pharmacy & CasaBella Beauty World won last year’s edition of the same award.
In other categories, Pepsodent dental product won the Brand Endorsement Award and Pharm. Roli Okoregbo, chief executive officer of Kaizen Pharmacy was honoured with ST Award (a one-year free subscription and mentorship programme worth N250,000).
The Panel, puts together by Pharmalliance, is an informal network of retail pharmacies that access a common pool of shared resources. These resources include Financial Services, Legal Services, Insurance Services and Business Development services.
According to the organisers, Pharmalliance is a summit for retail pharmacies registered by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN). It is an alliance of Pharmacy businesses and non-Pharmacy professionals.
In attendance at this year’s 7th edition of The Panel were Pharm. Ismail Adebayo, immediate past national chairman of Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN); Mr Fola Adeola, founder of Guaranty Trust Bank; Pharm. Ochuko Omaruaye, managing director of New Heights Pharmaceutical; Mr. Bayo Rotimi, managing director of Quest Advisory Services Limited; Pharm.
